What does a session look like?
Heat exposure stresses the body causing skin and body temperatures to increase and sweating to occur. The skins heats to 40 degrees and the core temp rises several degrees to 39.
The heart starts working harder to circulate more oxygen and the heart rate also increases. Blood flow is redirected from the core to the skin to aid sweating.
You might think that the above sounds a lot like the effects of exercising … and you would be right! The physiological responses to the heat of a sauna are very similar to those caused by exercise.
