Ice Bath

The ideal temperature range for most recovery protocols is between 8 and 15 degrees therefore, Gentle Recovery’s ice bath sits at around 10-11 degrees the majority of the time.

On a Wednesday morning the tub is chilled down to 5 degrees for those who like the extra challenge of a Wim Hof style cold water session. We also have the flexibility to customise the temperature for your session – contact us to discuss.

Our ice bath is single occupancy but you are welcome to bring a friend and alternate during your session. The ice bath is kept clean and hygienic via an inbuilt computer which continuously monitors the water sanitisation.

$20 (20 minutes) or purchase a package of 15 sessions for $255 (300 minutes)

When you try an ice bath at Gentle Recovery for the first time we will start with asking you about your cold water exposure experience (if any), followed by a number of questions to determine the best protocol for you.

The session is 20 minutes maximum however for clients with limited cold water experience we recommend aiming for five minutes initially. If you are feeling nervous or apprehensive about your session we are more than happy to remain with you throughout your session to provide guidance.

What does a session look like?

You’ll be zipped or clipped into your attachment of choice (legs, arms or hip/glute) and the pre-inflate cycle will commence. During the pre-inflate cycle, each zone of the attachment(s) are inflated to mould to your body.

The treatment then begins by compressing your feet, hands, or quads (depending on which attachment you are using). The dynamic compression continues to move upward similar to the kneading and stroking of a massage. Each zone of the attachment will compress and release repeatedly throughout the treatment which lasts for either 30 or 60 minutes.

Enjoy your compression massage at our clinic in South Melbourne, hire overnight or speak to us about coming to your event or gym!

What does a session look like?

Heat exposure stresses the body causing skin and body temperatures to increase and sweating to occur. The skins heats to 40 degrees and the core temp rises several degrees to 39.

The heart starts working harder to circulate more oxygen and the heart rate also increases. Blood flow is redirected from the core to the skin to aid sweating.

You might think that the above sounds a lot like the effects of exercising … and you would be right! The physiological responses to the heat of a sauna are very similar to those caused by exercise.
